A Shopping We Will Go!

After looking over the PDF file from Smacks Booster, I decided I had an idea of what I needed so it was off to the favorite stores to buy the stuff. Naturally, being a man, I figured I could wing it and buy the items from just a glance at someone Else's plans. Since we all know how that turns out, I'll just say this is the "first" shopping trip.

Advance Auto

I stopped there first to see what they had for gauges, particularly an ammeter. Turns out they don't Carry such a thing in stock so they ordered one for me. I forgot the brand name so I'll update that tomorrow when the unit shows up and I retrieve it from the store.

Lowe's

I bought a number of items from Lowe's and found out to my chagrin that the stainless steel hardware selection has been gutted by some moron in national ordering. Way to go, Slick! This means I have to go all the way downtown to the trusty Ace Hardware store.
Back to the Lowe's buy list:

Valley Pets

A Pet Store?! Where else are ya going to find aquarium tubing? While I was there I found a few items I think I can use.

  • (1) 6' 3/8" ID silicone tubing (Or at least it's flexible clear plastic)
  • (1) 3' 3/8" OD rigid clear plastic tubing
  • (1) Zap Gel PT-26, UPC 87093 00136

The ZAP GEL is good for making connections that work immediately under water. I figured, this could be the ticket!!

Goodwill Thrift Store

I decided I'd better stop to see if they have any used stainless steel cooking utensils and, why yes they did! Cheap too.

  • (2) Stainless Steel Cooking Utensils

Checker Auto

The second auto parts store of the day yielded a gas filter for a Quadrajunk carb. This just might work as a spark arrester.

  • (1) Gas Filter for Quadrajet carburetor

Ace Hardware Store

This place is da bomb. All the nifty little goodies you can't ever find anywhere else are to be had under this one roof. (or so it would seem). I went hog wild in this joint!

What'd I Miss?

If there is one thing that is certain, I missed stuff. The list of go back and get it is fairly short at the moment.

  • 2' of 1/2" Clear rigid tubing (Flexible will do as well)(Get at ACE Hardware)
  • (1) Fire Extinguisher, (Get at Lowe's)
  • (1) vinegar, 1qt, (Get at Safeway)
  • (1) Spray Bottle, 1qt, (Get at Lowe's)
  • (1) Vacuum/boost meter, (Get at Advance Auto)

Wow! The peanut math shows I've already spent over 235 clams on this project with probably another 30 to go. Of course it would be around 90 bucks less if I hadn't insisted on having decent guages to work with and some minimum amount of safety gear.

That pretty much covered the stuff I knew I didn't have. Next will be to rummage through the house and garage to round up the stuff I know I already had.
